At Symbiosis we have extensive experience of the planning system, working on behalf of both developers and local planning authorities, to ensure an appropriate balance is achieved between the requirements of the development and the successful integration of the important existing trees and provision of new planting.

Whether a domestic extension or a multi-million pound commercial project, the starting point is an assessment of the trees on and adjacent to the site undertaken in accordance with British Standard BS 5837:2012, “Trees in relation to design demolition and construction”, to establish the trees most worthy of retention. A Tree Constraints Plan can then be prepared to inform the design of the development. Depending on the nature of the project this will then be followed by the provision of a combination of the following:

  • Arboricultural Impact Assessment
  • Tree Protection Plan
  • Arboricultural Method Statement(s)
  • Specification and supervision of pre-development felling and pruning works
  • Supervision of critical works in proximity to retained trees

In the event that a planning application is refused, we can assist in the provision of expert evidence at any subsequent appeal hearing or public inquiry.
